Saser Kangri

Saser Kangri is the highest mountain of the Saser Muztagh, a spectacular mountain range located in the eastern Karakoram of Ladakh. Standing at 7,672 metres (25,171 feet), it is among the highest peaks in India and one of the most beautiful mountains in the Karakoram.

The mountain is surrounded by enormous glaciers, rugged ridges, deep valleys, and vast snowfields. Because of its isolated location and difficult access, Saser Kangri has remained one of the least visited major Himalayan peaks.

Its impressive height, technical climbing routes, and untouched alpine environment have made it one of the finest expedition peaks for elite mountaineers seeking a true wilderness adventure.

Saser Kangri has a proud place in Himalayan mountaineering history. The first successful ascent of Saser Kangri I was made in 1973 by an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) expedition led by Hukam Singh.

Over the years, only a small number of expeditions have attempted this remote mountain due to its technical difficulty, changing glacier conditions, and logistical challenges. Even today, successful ascents remain rare, making Saser Kangri one of the most respected expedition peaks in the Indian Himalayas.

The mountain continues to represent adventure, endurance, and the spirit of exploration in one of the world's wildest mountain landscapes.

Saser Kangri is located in the Saser Muztagh, a sub-range of the eastern Karakoram Mountains in Ladakh. The mountain rises north of the Nubra Valley and overlooks the upper Shyok River basin.

The nearest major town is Leh, which serves as the main gateway for expeditions into the Karakoram region. Due to its location close to India's northern border, access to the mountain requires special permits and government approvals.
