Kang Yatse 1
The only way to travel is to fly to Kushok Bakula Rimpochi Airport located in Leh. It is just 4 km away from the main city. The airport is well connected to Delhi and also receives flights from Mumbai, Srinagar, Jammu, Chandigarh and other general destinations in India. Even international travellers can fly directly from major cities like Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi.

Trek Terms
Leh (3500 m)
From Delhi, you can reach Leh by afternoon and check-in the hotel. It is the day to get used
to Leh’s climate. It is important you stay hydrated for the trek. You can relax for the day and
meet the trekking team in the evening for a briefing session on trek preparation and
planning. Your dinner and overnight stay will be in Leh.
Day 1 Rest, Acclimatize Arrival Day
You can visit places around Leh that will help you with acclimatization. Leh is a high altitude
region hence it is essential to get used to the climate. You can visit Leh Palace, Chemo
Monastery, and Shanti Stupa. You can shop for trekking gears and stroll around the town for
leisure. The evening is the best time to visit the monastery of Shanti Stupa and find peaceful
aura around it. You will start trekking tomorrow hence pack your trekking gears, have a
good dinner and sleep for the day.
Day 2 Rest, City Visit and Acclimatization
Skiu (3400 m)
You will start early morning and drive to Skiu via Chilling. The drive takes about 5 to 6 hours.
You will camp at Skiu, a 3-hour easy trek on a flat trail with a few challenges. The trekking
landscape is fascinating and unique. You will see green meadows and snow-covered
mountains all around. You can spot a few wild animals on your way. After 3 to 4 hours of
trek, you will reach the campsite. Your overnight stay will be in Skiu.
Day 3 Drive and Trek
Markha (3700 m)
You will wake up to a beautiful morning in Skiu. Today, you will trek to the Markha village. It
is an easy trek offering you an opportunity to enjoy the village serenity and culture. You will
have a breath-taking view of landscapes during the day. You will witness different terrains of
rocks and natural mountain formed by wind and water. Trek for about 5 to 6 hours and you
will reach Markha, a gorgeous campsite. Markha is situated on a flat meadow beside a
stream. Take an evening walk to visit the nearby old monastery. You will stay overnight in
tents in Markha.
Day 4 Trek
Thochungtse (4200m )
You will trek from Markha to Thochungtse via Hankar. A beautiful trek for about 4 - 5 hours
goes on a flat route with occasional ascends and descends. Shortly, you can spot Kang Yatse
filling you with excitement. After 3 hours of trek, you will reach Hankar, a beautiful village
with few houses with full of greenery. It is a picturesque location and ideal for lunch and
leisure. Once you leave Hankar, the terrain changes. You will spot unique rock formations on
your way. Some wild animals like blue sheep, snow leopards and ibex can be seen as well.
After 2 - 3 hours of walk, you will reach Thochungtse’s campsite. You can climb the nearby
mountain in the evening for acclimatization. Do not forget to check out Kang Yatse and the
plateau of Nimaling.
Day 5 Trek
Kang Yatse Base Camp (5000 m)
From Thochungtse, you will hike to a mountain that will give you a view of Kang Yatse.
After an hour from Thochungtse, you will reach a small lake to rest. From here, the trail
splits into two - one goes to Kang Yatse base camp and the other one to Nimaling. You will
head to the Kang Yatse’s basecamp that takes about 2 hours.
Day 6 Trek
It is yet another day for you to rest and get acclimatized to the climate. This is important to
prepare for the challenging summit tomorrow. Carry a light backpack and unload any excess
stuff to keep yourself light during the summit.
Day 7 Rest and Acclimatization
Kang Yatse Camp 1 (5500m )
You will trek from Kang Yatse base camp to Kang Yatse Camp 1. This takes about 3 to 4
hours covering 5 kilometres on a steep trek. You will camp overnight in Kang Yatse Camp 1.
Day 8 Trek
Kang Yatse 1 Summit (6400m)
Today, you will climb to the summit that involves passing through a broken ridge. You will
see a drop on both the sides and then it is a steep climb on hard ice. After a challenging 7 to
8 hours of hike covering 12 kilometres, you will reach Kang Yatse 1 summit point. You will
then head back to the Kang Yatse base camp.
Day 9 Hike to Summit
Kang Yatse basecamp (5000m )
This is a buffer day in case of any contingencies. You can rest on this day while enjoying your
meals and staying in the tent. Your overnight stay will be in Kang Yatse base camp.
Day 10 Contingency Day
Kongmaru La (5130m)
Chuskirmo (4140m)
You will trek from Kang Yatse Base Camp to Leh. From here, you will drive via Kongmaru La
and Chuskirmo. This will take about 8 to 9 hours.
Day 11 Trek and Drive back to Leh
Itinerary
Kang Yatse 1 peak lies in the renowned Markha valley in the Ladakh region. Markha valley is
a popular trekking spot in the Himalayas. One can spot Stok Kangri, Saser Massif, and
Karakoram range peak doing this trek.
