Kang Yatse 2 peak lies in the gorgeous Markha Valley, known for popular treks. As the trail goes through Hemis National Park, you can easily spot some snow Leopards, argali and mountain deer. Kang Yatse 2 is a preferred choice for aspiring trekkers considering its difficulty level.

  • Kang Yatse II Peak Expedition starts from Leh. You can reach Leh by flight or train. Leh is a high altitude region and hence you should get acclimatized well. Your first day will be for rest and shopping trekking gears. You can also take a leisure walk to explore Leh’s cultural treasures, monasteries, palaces and temples. You will stay at the hotel.

  • Your second day is also used to adapting your body to low temperatures of the region. Barring adventures and splendid scenery, Leh is quite popular for ancient buildings. Explore the history of Leh through the Shey Palace, Thiksey Monastery and ThikseyGompa. You can also visit passes and lakes like Nubra valley and Pangong lake. Make sure you do not strain to roam to places as you will have to trek tomorrow. Avoid higher altitude places and take a relaxed walk.

  • Altitude:- Chilling 3,200m/10,500ft, Skiu 3,400m/11,150ft
    You can see the ocean of barren that is brownish yellow and stunning while you drive from Leh to Chilling. Major monuments like Gurudwara Pathar Sahib and Spituk Monastery can be seen. You will be calmed by the silence of the Magnetic Hill that passes by. Don’t miss the colour changing rocks, dry grasslands as you cross the confluence of Zanskar and Indus rivers. Chilling is known for its Base camp.

    After a few hours of drive, you will start trekking to Skiu. The trek involves a steep ascent going via Zingchen gorge. You will cross the river on a trolley at Kaya-Do place. Trekking for 4 to 5 hours will take you to Skiu. It is located at the confluence of rivers Shgri Nala and Markha. The village consists of about just 10 to 15 houses. They are good homestays and offer refreshing tea. Your overnight stay will be at Skiu.

  • Altitude:- Markha 3,700m/12,200ft
    Today, you will witness the Markha valley as it overlaps with Kang Yatse. You will trek for about 20 kilometres and it will be the longest trek. You will first come across a village, Harding after hiking for 2 hours. Another 2-3 hours of the hike will take you to the Chalak village, beautifully situated amongst the barley fields with mountains as the backdrop.

    The next campsite is at Markha village that is 5-6km from Chalak village. Markha valley has around 30-40 houses. History enthusiasts can check out some ruins of a fort and an old monastery.

  • It will be an easy trek today. The trail will show beautiful streams and Markha river often as a refreshment. You will see Umlung village, a small village consisting of some houses and a monastery on the route. Now, you will have the first look of Mt. Kang Yatse. The next quick break will be at Hankar village. You can see the Tacha monastery. After a few hours, you can see the pastures of Thochungtse. This is a beautiful campsite on grasslands.

  • Altitude:- Nimaling 4,700m/15,400ft
    As you proceed trekking, the view of Kang Yatse keeps getting bigger. Now the trail will have a gradual ascent of 700 meters that would take 3 to 4 hours trek. You can spot tiny Tigu lakes that reflect the magnificent Kang Yatse peak.
    The trails enter into a humungous plain of Nimling. Here, you can spot sheep, mountain goats, and some rabbits grazing. Nimling will be your camping site.

  • Today you will trek less and rest more. Hence, enjoy natural beauty as much as you can. The first half of the trek gives a stunning view of Kang Yatse. The second half of the trail is just a descend. After 2-3 hours of easy trekking, you will reach the base camp. It is important for you to rest and get acclimatized to the mountain climate.

  • It is yet another day for you to get used to high altitudes. This will be your training day. You will be trained to use hiking equipment, walking in the snow using crampons, handling of ice axe, and other key techniques mandatory for a summit attempt.
    Keep your backpack light and pack it for the summit day. You will have early dinner early to wake up midnight for the major climb.

  • Altitude:- 6,250m/20,500ft It is the day of the summit! You will start at midnight for the summit to be able to reach the top at 6 am for a beautiful sunrise. You will carry packed lunch, refreshments and enough water for this challenging climb.
    The trail starts with loose rocks, that make it difficult to secure the foot on the trail. Use a trekking pole in such a scenario. The upward route will be mostly covered with snow. After a steep climb to the top, you can witness a panoramic view of the Zanskar range, Karakoram peaks and peaks that surround Kang Yatse. You could also spot K2 peak and Tibet mountains. The summit path is about 5 km. You must plan to return from the top by 1 pm. You will return to the base camp for rest after a strenuous summit.

  • Altitude:- Kongmaru 5,200m/17,100ft, Chuskirmo 4,600m/15,000ft
    This is a bonus day to get a pleasant sight of beautiful mountains once again. The terrain goes via the highest Kongmaru La pass. Once you climb for 2 hours to Kongmaru La pass, you will be welcomed by the Karakoram range and several other peaks. You will be mind-blown once you see the huge K2 Mountain. Proceeding further for 4 hours will bring you to Chuskirmo. The route has some steep descent and a terrain full of rocks.

  • Altitude:- Chokdo 3,700m/12,100ft
    It is the last day of your trek. You will see a drastic change in the trail through the scenery of Indus valley and Ladakh range. You will reach Chokdo after 1 to 2 hours of walk. This is the last stopping point of the trek. The satisfaction of reaching Kang Yatse 2 peak will ever stay in your mind. You can also check out the Hemis monastery. Your overnight stay will be at the hotel.
