The northernmost part of India is situated north of the Himalayas on the Tibetan Plateau, which is known as Ladakh or "Little Tibet." It has a breathtaking, immersive scenery of deep canyons, snowy mountains, and dry, windy plains. a wealth of 19,000-foot peaks, as well as significant treks to be traversed via high passes, are found in this part of the world, which is home to extensive ranges such as the Great Himalayan Range, the Zanskar, and Ladakh (Ladakh translates literally to "many passes"). While exploring the beautiful valleys and villages along the trail, our trek, led by our MTS trekking guide Sergio Fitch-Watkins, has us trekking past rugged and fertile valleys to moonscapes of stark yet evocative beauty, where we will visit villages hidden among mountains, ascend a series of peaks and pass prayer flags fluttering in the wind, and go to the base camp of Tsomothang Peak, from where we can see many of the Zanskar Himalaya and Karakoram mountains, among them is the isolated peak of K2, which is second only to Mount Everest in elevation.
